Gold Traceability Initiative for Artisanal Mines Exploitation
To fight against the fraudulent exportation of the gold resulting from the artisanal exploitation, the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo through the Center of Evaluation, Expertise and Certification of Precious and Semi-precious Mineral Substances, the CEEC launches the Artisanal Gold Transability Initiative (ITOA in french acronym for Initiative de Transabilité de l’Or d’exploitation Artisanal).

United Nations Security Council Resolution on the Congo
In parallel, the UN Security Council Resolution 1952, adopted unanimously on 29 November 2010, after recalling earlier resolutions on the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including resolutions 1807 (2008), 1857 (2008). ) and 1896 (2009), the Council renewed the arms embargo and related targeted sanctions for a further period until 30 November 2011.
The Council condemned the illegal movement of arms in and within the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in violation of resolutions 1533 (2004), 1807, 1857 and 1896, and intended to monitor their implementation closely. He acknowledged that the illegal exploitation of natural resources in the country fueled conflicts in the Great Lakes region. In addition, human rights violations, killings, the use of child soldiers and sexual violence remains a major concern.
